Another visit and reconnection with friends we had not seen for far too long. The Phenicie family live in Longmont, just North of Denver. Left to right: Misty, Jon, Helen, Jody/Jordan, Emily/Jackie, and me.
We had met them back in Santa Barbara, when Joya and Emily we tiny babies, in a support group for new parents. This group continued to meet until the kids were 5 or so. Some of the friendships formed then still remain, including ours. We had not seen any of them since Jon and Misty's wedding 4 or so years ago. They too graciously invited us to dinner at their home. One evening is really not enough time in which to 'catch up', but it was all we had -- Joya's presence back in Santa Barbara was tugging mightily at our hearts and minds. We ate some great food, prepared by Jon, and had some important conversations, several of which were about and/or included Emily, their 15 year old. Emily and Jon and Misty honored us by including us in some family discussions. We listened, offered what we could, and empathized with Jon and Misty in their parenting role.
