Before departing this day, Jody had one 'very small task' (for Wizard of Oz aficionados)
to accomplish: throw out her horribly smelly faux-Tevas. For some reason,
they had taken on an odor somewhat reminiscent of a bad day at a hot dump, with
a hint of pit toilet thrown in. They were vile. All during the prior
day's walk she had politely hiked last to spare Jordan and I the smell, despite
the flatulence we two were experiencing from the morning's chili. The
woman is clearly a saint.

This was a driving day. We packed and hitched up, and drove off. We
had picked the small town of Harmony partly for its
name, and mostly because it was about half way between Fontana and
Raleigh. About 250 miles later, we pulled in the the VanHoy (translation
from the Dutch: 'of the hay', I think) Farms Family Campground. It was
about 7 PM, so we still had nearly 2 hours of light. The afternoon was
warm, so we used all of the above and the rest of the day and early evening to
dry out our still-soggy backpacking gear, and stow away what we could.
