Among other things, Doug used some of the morning of this day to repair the damaged door, while the ladies all visited and swam with Marina at a pre-natal exercise class.  After riveting the door back together, aside from the lost screen and a patch covering the puncture wound, it was nearly as good as it was prior to the accident; if you have followed this saga to date, you can appreciate that this was a great relief to us all, especially to Jordan.  At left is Doug at work on this project.

Below is a shot of Marina and her water babies at the pool during a break in the class.

Doug's parents were arriving later this day, so after some lunch we all piled into the van and headed for Key West (known to locals or "Conches" as "Town"), where my parents' hotel was located.  The 20 mile drive South and West to Key West was easy until we got to about mile 3, which is the outside edge of Town.  Unfortunately, we had chosen to be in Key West during spring break, so the roads, beaches and sidewalks were all clogged with 15,000 college students on break with too much money and time on their hands, and too much alcohol in their bloodstreams.  This was somewhat unpleasant, but they were largely well behaved, and we stayed clear of them as much as possible.  Below is a shot of a Key West street, just to give you a feel.

We caught up with Doug's parents in the late afternoon, so we all walked Duval Street a bit, which is the main bar and T-shirt-shoppe street.  We had all heard that "Blue Heaven" was an excellent and unusual restaurant in "Bahama Town" (the black section of Key West), so we headed over there in the early evening.  It more than met our expectations: the ambiance was eclectic, with chickens running loose on the raked dirt floor, and a rope swing in the middle of the restaurant (see below).  Also, the food was excellent, offering lots of vegetarian options for those of us so inclined.

This is a shot of one entrance to Blue Heaven.

Here are Joe and Jackie Thomas, Doug's parents, at dinner.  The chickens were underfoot, literally, all through dinner. And one chicken flew down from a tree almost on top of Joya.

Jordan, enjoying the rope swing.  While Joya was swinging, a rather distracted woman got slammed to the ground by Joya while strolling directly in front of Joya's path without looking (and Joya's back was to her, so nothing could be done).  Just part the the Blue Heaven experience.
