Just above present day Jerome sits a small ghost town, formerly called
Haynes.
The character pictured below told us some interesting information about old and
modern Jerome. He was an employee of the couple that owned the former
Haynes. According to him, the original city of Jerome was perched even
further up the hill from modern-day Jerome. After much of the city was
constructed, it was discovered that they had built it upon one of the largest
and purest copper deposits ever found. The old town of Jerome was
reconstructed in it's entirety in a location a bit farther down the hill. Then,
apparently, they tore out the old
city to mine the copper, sliver and gold, and relocated the city businesses and
residents to the newly built town. The picture below shows parts of
Haynes; at the top left corner, the terraced areas are all that remain of old
Jerome and its copper vein.

Below are our two ghosts, peering in at some junk and their weird
photographer father.

This is a small schoolhouse (slightly bigger than ours) complete with dunce
cap.

On our way out of Haynes, someone had constructed "Jeromehenge" out
of old radiators, and Doug could not resist.
