Next February 15 - Prescott

We happily left Las Vegas on Valentines Day morning; however, the storm that we had been fleeing for the past week had overtaken us the previous night.  The entire drive to Prescott Arizona featured snow dusted hills, like those below.

When we got to Kingman, Arizona, we stopped and visited the property that Jody owns there, bequeathed to her by her maternal Grandfather. Kingman is on the old Route 66 and was a stopover place for lots of travelers. When the big highway went in, it bypassed Kingman and the town stalled out in a way. The property is now surrounded by houses in a development, of sorts. It was rumored that there were squatters on the land, but we found it to not be true.  Here is a shot of the property.

While in Kingman, we checked on road conditions, and found that interstate 40 was open and clear.  Highway 89 South, which we needed to take from 40 to get into Prescott mandated  4 wheel drive vehicles with snow chains until 4:00 PM.  We decided to go as far as we safely could, and then stop.  It snowed on us the entire drive from Kingman to Prescott, but the snow was not sticking to the road and conditions remained safe.  The drive was pretty easy until we got to our campground, which still had lots of snow on the roads.  This is a far as I could push the rig into the space.  There was about one foot of snow covering everything, and it was butt cold outside.

Here is a shot of "Point of Rocks Campground" at sunset, the day we arrived.

The ladies prepared an amazing, candle lit Valentines day dinner that evening that included squash soup, fresh baked biscuits, Pasta Margerita, and salad.  Here the two senior Thomas ladies work their magic. The kitchen seems to work pretty well.

The meal was fabulous.  We ended the day with some lively Cribbage and Hearts, and then bed. This felt like we were really on Holiday or at least it fit our pictures of how this trip would be.
