Saturday morning we drove across the bridge to the old, walled section of
Quebec which is now an international tourist Mecca. Quebec City was
"founded" by the French in early 1600 and is the only city in North
America that still has a wall around it like many European villages.
Quebec City was clean and charming and full of art, clothing and souvenir
shops. We strolled (the only way you can walk in Quebec--it is not a place
for briskly moving from place to place) around some of the main streets.
We walked up the "break-neck stairs", a really steep set of stairs,
going from Blvd. Petit Champlain to the Chateau Fontenac. Below we
are on our way to the visitor center.

Here is the view up to the Hotel Frontenac.

When in a walled city, it is nearly imperative that one must walk the
ramparts and get a feel for the history of it, so up we go.

A view of the roof tops of Quebec City.

The houses, apartments and shops in this area were so charming. This
part of the city sits on a hill. It is so steep, there is a funicular to
transport people from the water level to the main shopping streets, for those
who don't want to traverse the "break-neck stairs". We opted for
climbing and there was a lot of uphill. Notice the angle of the street
below.

The architecture is beautiful. The rooftops are mostly metal, in greens
and silvers with a bit of Gothic to them. Below is Jordan trying to freak
her Mom out by sticking out of the wall.

Through the hole in the wall can be seen the busy street below. Lots of
people. Lots of languages. Lots of smoking. Lots of
dogs. Lots of wild-haired women. Great people watching, in other
words.

Here we are in line at a creperie. Joya had fond memories of Christyn
Edmundson's crepes at Lit Club, so we indulged.

We have warm feelings for this little place, which served healthy ingredients
in the wonderful crepes. We got to hand pick our fillings by ingredient
and they were delicious!

We got one of three window seats so we could continue people watching.

We opted to eat another round of dessert crepes. Doug and Jody shared a
banana, chocolate and whipped cream crepe, while the girls shared a strawberry
and whipped cream crepe. Magnifique!

Here is Joya, thinking her thoughts, enjoying being very full of whipped
cream.

Like most big cities, there are a fair number of street performers plying
their art. This fellow had three dogs that were trained to do a myriad of
tricks. We excluded the photos of the dogs standing on each other and
jumping over each other and dragging scooters around. Here is one of them
walking between the man's legs as he walks. We had a really sweet day in
Quebec. Relaxed and leisurely and full of things to see.

When we got back to camp, the girls had a swim. They really enjoyed the
slide.

Time to clean up in preparation for our guest arriving tomorrow...
