April 25 - To Pigeon Forge
We had come to Boone because our dear friends Donnis Galvin and Peter Hale
had suggested it, not really knowing (or perhaps remembering) what to expect.
We found it to be charming. Boone is a college town, with the University
of the Appalachians right 'downtown'. The nearby hills are so close that
they seem to loom right over the downtown buildings. It was drizzling down
rain as we walked the streets and toured the odd antique gallery. As we
were still short of a few items for our pending backpacking trip (based on the
inventory I'd made the day before), we stopped at two of the many outfitters
there and found everything on the list, including one that was not: new hiking
shoes for Jody (she had accidentally left them packed away at home).
We also found an excellent vegetarian place for lunch: Our Daily Bread.
Below are all three of us -- Doug and Jordan at the table, Jody reflected in the
window.

While we were in the outfitters, Jordan had purchased me a surprise, which I
proudly wear below. In case you can't read the lettering, it says
"Log On", "Crash" and "Reboot". I absolutely
love it, and plan on wearing it on the walk next week.
