We desperately needed to sleep in, so we did. After a nice long rest, I
took Jordan out on the lake in a paddle boat for a tour. We studied all
the different species of duck and geese that were wintering there, most of which
chased us for a bit, hoping we would feed them. We paddled around
and investigated the coves and abandoned docks we found around little Lake
Myers, and then headed back.
This was a travel day, but a leisurely one, since our destination, Boone, was
only a few hours away. Jody navigated, and found us a nice set of
"blue highways" up to Boone, at about 3200 feet in the Blue Ridge
Mountains, East of the Smokies. We found the nearly empty "Flintlock
Campground" to be pleasant, with a small brook and plenty of trees,
but annoyingly near to highway 105, with lots of traffic. It did, however,
have a 25 cent pool table, which the ladies enjoyed, below. Most tables we
had found had been 50 cent tables; but this one was missing one ball, so we
carefully caught one solid and put it back on the table to balance things
out. Speaking of balancing, Jordan still required that Doug play left
handed standing on one foot. This was about the correct handicap, evening
things out pretty well.
We had arrived around 4:00 PM and set up camp quickly. We had accumulated a
fair bit of laundry, so the took care of that, and that took care of the
afternoon. Next up was dinner and, luxury of luxuries, a campfire, with
lots of wood. This we enjoyed greatly, as we had had so few so far.
Jordan got the best 'seat': that is her in the hammock right next to the fire.
