We got a nice early start out of Paradise, and arrived in Fresno around 2:00
PM. We were there to visit our dear friends the Engle family, who we know
from homeschooling.
Below is Wolfram and Thomas. Wolfram is on the left, and yes, Thomas is
gigantic -- he weighs much more than Wolfram.

And this is Josh, doing one of the things that teenagers do best -- consuming
lots of food. We saw Josh only briefly, since he is a busy guy -- work,
school, protest marches, movies, and SAT tests were all occupying him during our
visit.

And this is a rotten picture of Katzi, but I have no better.

We had a really great visit -- all too short. The evening of the first,
we had a lovely dinner al fresco, enjoying the warm climate. The
next morning we took a walk through the farmlands, along canals. It was
brisk and bright and full of lots of good conversation.
Just before we left, David (at left), Josh and I all put our heads together
to try to get the broken forge blower working again -- the Engle men all like
the metal arts, which require a blacksmith's forge. After a hour or so, we
found an assembly configuration that worked. We quickly fastened
everything down and called it good.

We reluctantly left the Engles after so short a time, promising to visit with
each other again soon. This was the last of our stops before coming home,
and we were acutely aware that "the trip" was rapidly coming to an
end.
We departed around noon for the 4 hour drive home.
