A short distance East of Savannah lies Tybee Island, where we found there was an
RV park. We had little choice in the Savannah area -- there were really
only 2 places to choose from: a State park with a low 'scenic' rating -- this
usually meant that either the spaces were absurdly close together, or that there
was no vegetation whatsoever in the entire park --, or a park on Tybee Island, which sounded much more interesting; so that was our
destination for the day. We got a late start (as usual), and so did not
pull in to the park until 3 or 4 PM. The rather curt and unfriendly lady
in the office took our money, assigned us a space, and then returned to ignoring
us. Not auspicious. The 'River's End RV Park' was adequate, but they
could have done a lot better. The pool was open and clean, but unheated
and thus was in the low 60s; trees were few and far between, and the bathroom
facilities were just barely tolerable. As we did not plan on staying for more than
the night, all this really mattered little, but we had high expectations.
After we got unhooked, we went for a drive through this small, quaint beach
town. It had a very unglamorous and almost New England nautical feel,
right down the the antique and still-working lighthouse. We loved
it. We found a place to park, and went for a sunset walk on the
beach. The day was very cloudy, windy and cool, so we had to stay bundled
up pretty well. The shelling was great -- we happened along at an extreme
low tide -- and so spent a couple of hours walking looking for Atlantic shells.
By twilight, we were ready to get dinner going and then do some reading; so we
did so.
You have probably noticed the lack of pictures here. The camera has
gone past 'fritzed', and is well into 'fubared'. We plan on sending it in
for warranty service when we get to Jody's relatives -- please be patient.
