These pages document the wedding of Mardi Galdamez and Maria Nastasi.
Mardi is Jody's brother Michael's wife's (Amira's) brother, for those of you who
know us well, or want to know us better. If you don't know Mardi and
Maria, don't like large, fabulous Italian/Salvadoran weddings, or you simply
don't much care for weddings at all, click the 'next' link above. All
others, stay tuned; it was a blast.
Now, I am getting a bit ahead of myself with this picture, but it is pretty
cool (so of course was taken and/or processed by Joya), and lets you know who we
are talking about.
We return now to our regularly scheduled web travelogue.
We arrived on Friday to meet up with the Elgans, so Jordan and Kenny had to
immediately have a humongous, fierce pillow fight lasting for an hour or so,
which the following pictures document, and which were graciously taken and
provided by Kenny's dad, Michael.
On to more serious matters. Friday evening was the rehearsal dinner, to
which we were very generously invited. The next morning entailed a bit of
quick shopping by (some of) the Thomas ladies, who felt a bit under-dressed, such that
they could appear in long dresses for the wedding proper. Apparently New
York weddings are a bit dressier than the California kind.
Below, Joya helps Kevin Elgan (Mike and Amira's oldest son) pin on his boutonniere.
Kevin was an usher for the day's festivities.
While we waited for the limo to arrive to take us all to the church, I
snapped this pic of Jody and Amira, all dolled up in their wedding duds.
That's Sonny Corlione III over there on the left, seated next to Joya,
Kevin and Jordan.
The ladies and groomsmen all rode over together to the church in the limo,
where Mardi took care of some last minute calls. Those are Amira's lips
in the foreground, and Maria's brother Sal next to her; then Kenney and Mardi.
Another limo shot, this one taken by Jordan.
The reception was at Land's End, a lovely, wild spot on Long Island.
It was windy but warm. Joya shot the picture below and then cropped and
processed it. Another winner.
Here we are back inside, at the reception proper, just in time to see the
bride and groom cutting the cake.
These folks did it right: there was dancing between every course, and the
music was varied enough to appeal to everyone. Below, Joya teaches Kevin
some swing dance moves.
This is Amira's mother Blanca, and her Blanca's husband Mel.
Kevin enjoying a dance with his girlfriend, Erica.
One of the last dances of the evening. The bride's brother, Sal, sang
a ballad. It was very touching.
This may have been the finest wedding we have ever been to. There was
so much love and energy and good food and dancing and playfulness. It was
over too soon (midnight). We all piled into the extremely long limo
(seated 24 !) and headed for home just as it began to rain. Thank you to
the Parillo and Galdamez and Elgan families for the invitations. It was
wonderful to be part of.
