We left Williams around 10:00 AM (good for us), with the goal of reaching
Canyon de Chelly later that day -- around 250 miles of driving, with a short
lunch stop in Petrified Forest National Park. We found the geology
and formation process interesting, but felt that we rightly spent only an hour
or so ogling rocks that used to be trees in the Cretaceous period. Below,
some fine specimens of rocks that used to be trees.

These photos aptly depict the "Petrified Forest". This beautiful
scenery combined with the huge argument we had about listening, really rounded
out a nearly perfect day.

Sorry -- the rest of the time we were driving. Not many good photo
ops there.
