When we awoke, snow was falling and the wind was blowing hard down the
river. At times, we could see the snow driven horizontally
downstream. The snow was not yet sticking, so we knew the ground
temperature was still above freezing; but judging from how cold it was inside
the trailer, it was not much above freezing. Jody was positively gleeful
-- she loves 'snow days'. If the weather ever broke, we were going to take
a tour of the Biltmore Grounds and Estates, which is a sort of Hearst Castle of
the East. The weather never broke. It snowed off and on all day, and
the wind blew hard all the time. We hunkered down and stayed inside for
the most part, eating, reading, napping, playing cards, and writing. With
only three in the trailer, it was not at all cramped; I guess our standards have
changed.
