April 13 - Anniversary Day
After rousing the young ladies, we started them in on dying the 3 dozen
Easter eggs we had purchased the day before. They had a great time with
this, and were very creative, given the medium: we had only the standard-issue 'Paaz'
egg dying kit this year.
After egg dying, Chelsea packed herself up in preparation for her return to
her father's later that day. We all piled into the van around noon, and
stopped almost immediately in Helen, at the 'Wilderness Outfitters'. Joya
needed a few small items in preparation for her upcoming river rafting
trip. We like outdoor gear suppliers -- too much, I fear. We
ended up dropping a bundle. As you have heard, we needed a tent.
They had a nice 4-person. Joya needed a backpack, so we got that there,
too. In all, we spent more than 2 hours there, and probably significantly
contributed to the owners early retirement fund. But we had gear.
Next on the agenda was eating a little smackeral of something, and then
getting Chelsea to her dad's. Both took longer than a person in a
hurry would tolerate, but one thing we have nowadays is time, so we did not
fret. After dropping Chelsea and bidding her and Ralph farewell, we headed
back to Unicoi -- about an hour and 40 minutes. Since lunch had been so
late, we had a light dinner and "Thomas Family Theater". This
nights feature, "Bring it on", was given to the girls by their
maternal grandmother, Joan Magruder, so finding a blockbuster was not necessary
-- and that was a treat. As for the movie itself, it got mixed
reviews. From my standpoint, in the vast and impressive list of movies
about cheerleading, this one surely ranks among the top 10 percent. The
girls really liked it though, and their vote counts, too. That's why we
are doing this trip.
